1. A Standing Person: ㅣ

ENG: The letter ㅣ looks like a person standing straight. Think of my name, “Lee”. If you take out the ‘L’, you get the exact sound of ㅣ! Listen to the audio and repeat!

TAG: Ang letrang ㅣ ay mukhang taong nakatayo nang tuwid. Tandaan ang pangalan kong “Lee”. Kung tatanggalin mo ang ‘L’, makukuha mo ang eksaktong tunog ng ㅣ! Pakinggan ang audio at ulitin!

2. Pointing East (Sun Rises): ㅏ & ㅑ

If you add a stroke to the right of ㅣ, it becomes ㅏ. Imagine a person stretching an arm to the East (Right) where the sun rises. This is a Bright Sound (Yang).

• ㅏ : Stretch your arm to the east and push the sound OUT brightly.
• ㅑ : If you add one more stroke to ㅏ, it becomes ㅑ (stretching both arms to the East!).

Kung dadagdagan mo ng guhit (stroke) sa kanan ang ㅣ, magiging ㅏ ito. Isipin ang isang tao na nakaunat ang braso sa Silangan (Kanan) kung saan sumisikat ang araw. Ito ay isang Maliwanag na Tunog (Bright Sound).

• ㅏ : Iunat ang braso sa silangan at ilabas ang tunog nang maliwanag.

• ㅑ : Kung dadagdagan mo pa ng isang guhit ang ㅏ, magiging ㅑ ito (nakaunat ang dalawang braso sa Silangan!).

3. Pointing West (Sun Sets): ㅓ & ㅕ

If you add a stroke to the left of ㅣ, it becomes ㅓ. Stretch your arm to the West (Left) where the sun sets and gets dark. This is a Deep & Dark Sound (Yin).

• ㅓ : Drop your jaw and let the sound fall deep inside, like the setting sun.
• ㅕ : If you add one more stroke to ㅓ, it becomes ㅕ (stretching both arms to the West!).

Kung dadagdagan mo ng guhit sa kaliwa ang ㅣ, magiging ㅓ ito. Iunat ang braso sa Kanluran (Kaliwa) kung saan lumulubog ang araw at dumidilim. Ito ay isang Malalim at Madilim na Tunog (Deep & Dark Sound).

• ㅓ : Ibagsak ang panga at hayaang pumasok nang malalim ang tunog, parang sa paglubog ng araw.

• ㅕ : Kung dadagdagan mo pa ng isang guhit ang ㅓ, magiging ㅕ ito (nakaunat ang dalawang braso sa Kanluran!).

1. The Flat Ground: ㅡ

ENG: The letter ㅡ represents flat ground. Imagine Teacher Lee standing (ㅣ) and suddenly falling flat on the ground because of exhaustion, making the sound “ㅡ”! This sound does not exist in English, so it is very difficult for foreigners, but it plays a crucial role in Korean. You must master this completely at the beginning! Listen to the audio and repeat!

TAG: Ang letrang ㅡ ay kumakatawan sa patag na lupa. Isipin si Teacher Lee na nakatayo (ㅣ) at biglang natumba sa lupa dahil sa pagod, na lumilikha ng tunog na “ㅡ”! Ang tunog na ito ay walang katumbas sa English kaya napakahirap sa mga banyaga, ngunit napakahalaga nito sa Korean. Kailangan mong i-master ito sa simula pa lang! Pakinggan ang audio at ulitin!

2. Pointing Up (Sun Rises): ㅗ & ㅛ

ENG: If you add a stroke above the ground ㅡ, it becomes ㅗ. Picture the sun rising above the earth—creating a Bright Sound (Yang).

• ㅗ : The sun rises above the ground ➔ Bright ㅗ sound.
• ㅛ : Add one more stroke to ㅗ ➔ Bright ㅛ sound.
