🛑 WAIT! Grammar is way easier once you know the words — if you haven’t studied Chapter 29-1 Vocabulary (Public Etiquette) yet, go memorize them first! Today we’ll learn -(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다, similar to last chapter, but with a twist.
🇵🇭 Teka muna! Mas madali ang grammar kapag alam mo na ang mga salita — kung hindi mo pa naaral ang Chapter 29-1 Vocabulary (Public Etiquette), i-memorize muna ito! Ngayon, aralin natin ang -(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다, kahalintulad ng nakaraang chapter, pero may kaibahan.

📌 1. What is -(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다?
-(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다 is attached to a verb to show the ABILITY or POSSIBILITY of doing something (or the lack of it).
🇵🇭 Idinidikit ang -(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다 sa isang pandiwa upang ipakita ang KAKAYAHAN o POSIBILIDAD ng paggawa ng isang bagay (o kawalan nito).
✅ Verb stem WITH a Final Consonant (받침 O) 👉 + -을 수 있다/없다 (e.g., 찍다 → 찍을 수 있어요)
✅ Verb stem WITHOUT a Final Consonant, or 받침 ‘ㄹ’ 👉 + -ㄹ 수 있다/없다 (e.g., 전화하다 → 전화할 수 있어요, 만들다 → 만들 수 있어요)
-(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다 (this chapter) focuses on whether you have the ABILITY to do something. -(으)ㄹ 줄 알다/모르다 (Chapter 28-2) focuses on whether you know the METHOD.
🇵🇭 Ang -(으)ㄹ 수 있다/없다 (chapter na ito) ay tungkol sa kung mayroon kang KAKAYAHAN na gawin ang isang bagay. Ang -(으)ㄹ 줄 알다/모르다 (Chapter 28-2) ay tungkol sa kung alam mo ang PARAAN.
Compare: 저는 자전거를 탈 수 있어요. (I’m physically able to.) vs 저는 자전거를 탈 줄 알아요. (I know how to.)
🇵🇭 Tandaan: tinatanggal muna ang -다 para makuha ang “stem”! Buong paliwanag sa Chapter 4-1.
