🛑 WAIT! Grammar is way easier once you know the words — if you haven’t studied Chapter 26-2 Vocabulary (Food Culture) yet, go memorize them first! Today we’re back to -는데/(으)ㄴ데 — the CONTRAST meaning we promised in Chapter 23-1.

🇵🇭 Teka muna! Mas madali ang grammar kapag alam mo na ang mga salita — kung hindi mo pa naaral ang Chapter 26-2 Vocabulary (Food Culture), i-memorize muna ito! Bumalik tayo sa -는데/(으)ㄴ데 — ang kahulugang CONTRAST na ipinangako namin sa Chapter 23-1.

📌 1. What is -는데/(으)ㄴ데 (Contrast)?

This time, -는데/(으)ㄴ데 shows that the situation or result AFTER it is in CONTRAST with what came before.
🇵🇭 Sa pagkakataong ito, ipinapakita ng -는데/(으)ㄴ데 na ang sitwasyon o resulta PAGKATAPOS nito ay MAGKAIBA sa nauna.

[Basic pattern] — Same conjugation as Chapter 23-1!
✅ Verbs, 있다/없다 👉 + -는데
✅ Adjectives WITH batchim 👉 + -은데
✅ Adjectives WITHOUT batchim, or 받침 ‘ㄹ’ 👉 + -ㄴ데

💡 TIP: Remember Chapter 23-1?
Same exact spelling and conjugation as Chapter 23-1 — but there it meant “background info,” and here it means “but/contrast.” Context is everything!
🇵🇭 Parehong baybay at conjugation sa Chapter 23-1 — pero doon ang ibig sabihin ay “background info,” at dito naman ay “pero/contrast.” Ang konteksto ang lahat!
Example: 떡볶이는 매운데 김밥은 안 매워요. (Tteokbokki is spicy, but gimbap isn’t.)

💡 Remember: “Stem” means removing -다 first! Full explanation in Chapter 4-1.
🇵🇭 Tandaan: tinatanggal muna ang -다 para makuha ang “stem”! Buong paliwanag sa Chapter 4-1.

토요일은 출근하는데 일요일은 출근을 안 해요.	🇺🇸 I work Saturdays, but not on Sundays. 🇵🇭 Pumapasok ako tuwing Sabado, pero hindi tuwing Linggo.
마루는 넓은데 방은 좁아요.	🇺🇸 The wooden floor area is spacious, but the room is small. 🇵🇭 Malaki ang maru (wooden floor), pero maliit ang kwarto.
