Maligayang pagdating!
💡 Teacher Nova’s Guide to Korean Demonstratives
“Check the distance between you and the object!”
In EPS-TOPIK Conversation, demonstratives are shortened for easier speaking. Let’s look at the three main types of Korean Demonstratives:
(I-geon / This): Used when the object is close to the speaker (You).
(Geu-geon / That): Used when the object is close to the listener (The person you are talking to).
(Jeo-geon / That over there): Used when the object is far from both the speaker and the listener.
[English] Korean Demonstratives depend on who the object is closer to. Many students get confused between ‘그건’ and ‘저건’. Remember: If it’s near your friend, use ‘그건’. If it’s way over there by the window, use ‘저건’.

English: Yujin, what is this (near me)? / Yujin, ano ito (malapit sa akin)?
(Dal-lyeok-i-e-yo.)
English: It’s a calendar. / Ito ay calendar.
(Jeo-geon mwo-ye-yo?)
English: What is that (far from both)? / Ano iyon (malayo sa ating dalawa)?
