Today, we are going to learn Chapter 8-1: ask and answer questions about family and friends.
After this lesson, you will be able to ask and answer questions about family and friends in Korean.

Korean Meaning
마두: 프엉 씨, 어머니께서 한국에 계세요? Pheung, is your mother in Korea?
Pheung, nasa Korea po ba ang nanay mo?
프엉: 네, 같이 살아요. Yes, we live together.
Oo, magkasama po kami.
마두: 어머니께서는 한국에서 무슨 일을 하세요? What does your mother do in Korea?
Ano po ang trabaho ng nanay mo sa Korea?
프엉: 베트남 식당에서 일하세요. 어머니께서 요리를 잘하세요. She works at a Vietnamese restaurant. She’s a great cook.
Nagtatrabaho po siya sa Vietnamese restaurant. Magaling po siyang magluto.

💡 Nova’s Tip

‘-(으)시-‘ is added to a verb to show respect for the SUBJECT of the sentence — used for parents, grandparents, and elders. 있다→계세요 is a special honorific form!

🇵🇭 Ang ‘-(으)시-‘ ay idinadagdag sa verb para magpakita ng respeto sa SUBJECT ng pangungusap — ginagamit para sa magulang, lolo’t lola, at nakatatanda. Ang 있다→계세요 ay isang espesyal na honorific form!
